RYA VHF/SRC Radio Course (Online)
This is the online version of the RYA VHF/SRC - hosted on the RYA Interactive Site.
Taking this course online enables you to study and learn the content in an interactive way at your own pace, and in a time frame that suites you.
Which ever what you choose to learn (Classroom based course or Online), the VHF/SRC Radio Course and exam is for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio.
A marine radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board a boat and it is vital to understand the correct procedures to use this equipment properly.
The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio either fixed or hand held.
Anyone wanting to commercially endorse an RYA/MCA Certificate of competence certificate requires an SRC licence as part of this application process. Similarly a number of boat clubs and charter companies require members to hold an SRC Licence in order to take charge/skipper one of their vessels.
Course Format
The Online SRC Course + exam is broken into 2 parts as below:
RYA Interactive Course Online* - Approx 6 - 8 hours
Exam (Optional** with an RYA Examiner) - Approx 1 - 2 hours
*The VHF/SRC course is delivered via the RYA Interactive Site. The course runs on PC, MAC and is also available through an iOS APP for an iPad/iPad Mini. For compatibility requirements and a course demo - click here.
**You can complete the Online SRC Course without choosing to sit the exam. However, please note you will not be issued with an SRC Licence. Those wishing to complete the exam need to book onto this via our booking system and select a relevant date.
